Our Favourite Things about Limerick City

Riverwalk

Swan in the shannon

As poetic as Nick Drake but not so depressing ...

In a typical bout of flakiness, I put water instead of oil into my car. This resulted in plumes of black smoke being emitted at the Parkway roundabout, before the car itself died. Broke, I was forced into walking the hour from Corbally to the University of Limerick. This path is known as the Riverwalk and it is one of Limerick's best kept secrets. It made me wish I had sacrificed the car sooner. I love the scenery and the river, but I love the people's interaction more. You are guaranteed to meet dog-walkers, wanderers, joggers, anglers. There is a real shared appreciation of the place and this is reflected in everyone's perfect measure of friendliness. Even the county council workers are the friendliest I've ever met. And seemingly the happiest.  - Ailbhe
